80 injured in 'jallikattu'
TIRUCHI: Over 80 persons sustained injuries in the 'jallikattu' organised near Palakurichi, coming under the Valanadu police station limits, in the district today, police sources here said. The sources said around 300 bulls participated in the event.
Cash stolen from temple
Unidentified persons gained entry into a temple at Senthaneerpuram here and stole cash kept inside the 'hundial' on Sunday. Police sources here said the unknown culprits scaled the compound wall and entered the Selva Mariamman temple. They then broke the 'hundial' and stole Rs. 2,000 cash from it.
The Goldenrock police are investigating the case.
The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd (Poompuhar), a Government of Tamil Nadu undertaking, has extended the date to receive application forms from artisans for the 'Poompuhar Award contest' for 2004-05 up to January 31.
In a press release, it said the artisans could submit filled in application forms along with a model handicraft to the office of the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation, 759 Anna Salai, Chennai - 2 either in person or through post.
A one-day training programme on AIDS disease for practitioners in traditional medicine was held here recently. The programme was organised by Gramalaya, a non-governmental organisation, AIDS Prevention and Control (APAC) and US AID.
M. Senthilvel, the resource person, spoke on preventive measures to be taken from getting afflicted with the disease and about the importance of extending immediate clinical attention to those with its symptoms. A total number of 30 practitioners underwent the training.
The water level at the Mettur dam stood at 114.54 feet today. The inflow was 2408 cusecs and the outflow, 6024 cusecs .
