Water level

MADURAI: The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 133.60 feet with an inflow of 367 cusecs and a discharge of 600 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 68.64 feet with an inflow of 301 cusecs and a discharge of 1041cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 8295 mcft.

Results published

Results of M.Sc. (bio-chemistry), M.Sc. (biochemical technology),

M.Sc. (statistics), M.Sc. (computer science), M.Sc. (maths), M.A. (Indian culture), M. Com. (finance), MFC and M. Com. examinations conducted by the Madurai Kamaraj University in November 2005 have been published on January 2.

Students, who wish to apply for revaluation, can download the application form from www.mkuniversity.org/forms/html. Applications should be sent on or before January 18 after remitting fee. They need not wait for mark statements. Applications received after the last date will not be entertained and fee paid refunded or adjusted, according to a press release issued by the Controller of Examinations, Madurai Kamaraj University.

New political party

The Tamizhaga Telungar Orunginaippu Kuzhu has floated a new political party Bharathiya Dravida Makkal Katchi. Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, its president, P. Muthuvelrajan, said that despite a substantial number of Telugu-speaking people living in the State, they did not get political recognition and due representation in government jobs and higher education. "This is the case of people belonging to many castes in the State," Dr. Muthuvelrajan said. The party would be registered with the Election Commission. It would contest in 125 Assembly constituencies in the ensuing election to the State Assembly. The party's first political conference would be held in Madurai in February, he added.

National symposium

Jeevan alias Natarajan, an advocate of Madurai, will participate in a national symposium of poets to be held at Shanthiniketan, Kolkata, on January 8 and present his poem 'Vazhkkai Oru Nambikkai.'

Every year, the best poem broadcast by the All India Radio in each language is selected for the symposium.

The selected poems of all national languages will be broadcast through All India Radio stations between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. on January 25. - Staff Reporter
