MADURAI: The level in the Periyar dam on Saturday stood at 133.90 feet with an inflow of 345 cusecs and a discharge of 600 cusecs.

The level in the Vaigai dam was 69.19 feet with an inflow of 490 cusecs and a discharge of 841 cusecs.

The combined Periyar credit stood at 8542 mcft.

EB grievance day on January 5

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Superintending Engineer of Madurai Electricity Distribution Circle will conduct a consumer grievance day meeting at the office of the Executive Engineer, Electrical, Samayanallur, between 10.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on January 5. Consumers of Samayanallur division can air their grievance at the meeting, it was stated in a TNEB press release.

Students get scholarships

Ten scholarships were distributed to students in and around the city for the academic year 2005-06 at a function organised at Balamandiram Higher Secondary School recently.

Three students studying B.E. were given Rs.8,000 each while seven students doing B.Sc. received Rs.2,500 each. S. Ramanathan, former UN advisor, presided over the function.

G. Parthiban, president, Rotary Club of Madurai Downtown distributed the cheques, distributed on behalf of North South Foundation, Illinios, USA.

S. Krishnan, school secretary, welcomed the gathering .

Talent Search Test on January 8

Aspire Learning Company will offer scholarships worth Rs.25 lakh for winners of its Talent Search Test, which will be conducted for students of VIII, IX, X, and XI standard.

According to a press release, the scholarship will be offered to students based on their performance in an hour-long objective test designed to evaluate their understanding of basic concepts of mathematics and science at their respective levels and prepare them further for entrance examinations.

The test will be held on January 8. The last date for submission of applications is January 5.

Nominated to Haj Goodwill Delegation

The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has nominated K. Kasim, former Deputy Inspector General of Police and founder of Dharmarajyam Trust, as a member of Haj Goodwill Delegation 2006.

According to a press release, the delegation will stay in Saudi Arabia for 19 days from January 5 to 23. The delegation will leave for Saudi Arabia on January 4. - Staff Reporter
