Ticket vending machineCHENNAI: Syndicate Bank has commissioned a ticket vending machine at Moore Market Complex of Chennai Central. The vending machine will dispense platform tickets and tickets to selected stations. The machine has also been programmed to refund excess amounts remitted for purchase of tickets. The bank proposes to put up one more machine at Mambalam Railway Station shortly.

Succumbs to injuriesA 22-year-old college student who met with an accident on Monday succumbed to his injuries at the Kilpauk Medical College hospital. R. Karthik, a resident of Ambedkar Street, Ambattur, was riding a two-wheeler on the ICF Link Road when an earthmover hit him from behind. Hesustained head injuries and was admitted to the hospital, where he died later in the night, police said.

Dental check upBaskar Dental Foundation, T.Nagar conducted a free dental camp for senior citizens at Sri Poorna Maha Meru Trust, Old Pallavaram on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members were given a dental check up, required medicines, toothbrushes, tooth powder and guidance on diet to be followed.

Eye and dental campSinghvi Charitable Trust organised a free eye and dental camp on Monday last. A total of 185 patients were screened. Corrective glasses were recommended for nearly 150 persons. About 16 of them were referred for free eye surgeries. The camp included screening, prevention and education about refractive errors. School children were also given free eye check up.

Gynaecology campThe Christian Foundation for the Blind-India, an NGO working with special children conducted a free gynaecology camp for visually impaired women on Sunday. Nearly 100 women with visual impairment from Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram district attended the camp, which was inaugurated by the president of the foundation Grace Browning. Dr.Ru.Usha Ravi examined the women.

Rally against drug abuseMass Action Network Trust, as part of its observation of `International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking' recently organised a mass rally in which schools students from Red Hills participated.

Nearly 1200 children, members of self help groups and youth associations took part in the rally.
