Four children drownTIRUCHI: Four children, including a girl, were drowned in the Kollidam river at Anbil near Lalgudi in Tiruchi district on Sunday.
According to the police, Jothi Anand (13), Manikandan (8), Tiripurasundari (8) and her brother Jeeva (7), who were all related to each other, went along with one of their relatives to the Kollidam river. Even as their relative was washing clothes on the riverbank, the children went into the river and drowned.
It took the fire fighters four hours to recover the bodies, which were later taken to the Government Hospital at Lalgudi.
`Vasanthothsavam' A large number of devotees offered worship at the Srirangam Sri Ranganathasamy Temple here on Sunday on the occasion of `Vasanthothsavam'. Sri Namperumal, processional deity, was taken by the golden horse mount (thanga kuthirai vahanam) in the evening all around the Chithrai Streets at Srirangam. The ritual was followed by `theerthavari' at the Chandra Pushkarani. The `Tirumanjanam' was performed later at the Vasantha mandapam at the end of which Sri Namperumal was taken back to the sanctum sanctorum.
