Plea on buses bound for SalemTIRUCHI: The Tiruchi district wing of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam has urged Minister for Transport K. N. Nehru to take action to operate buses bound for Salem from Tiruchi, at the Chathiram Bus Stand.
In a release issued here on Saturday, the district president of the forum, S. T. Rajendran, said presently the buses bound for Salem were being operated only from the Central Bus Stand in the city.
The release also thanked the Minister for having taken immediate action for introducing town route buses, fulfilling the felt-need of the residents of East Boulevard Road, Azhwarthoppe and Ramachandra Nagar.
Appointed Principal K. Anbarasu has been appointed Principal of National College, Tiruchi.
He had his graduation in Geology from National College and later joined the same institute as lecturer. Dr. Anbarasu got his Ph. D. following his research on `Coastal geomorphology of Tamil Nadu'.
He is the Chairman of the Board of Studies (Geology) of Bharathidasan University.
Birth and death certificatesThe Tiruchi Corporation has issued birth and death certificates to 1,959 persons in May.
In a release issued here on Saturday, Corporation Commissioner Harmander Singh said that a maximum of 761 certificates were issued by the Ko. Abishekapuram zonal office, followed by 550 by the Golden Rock zonal office, 460 by the Srirangam zonal office and 188 by the Ariyamangalam zonal office.
The certificates were being issued between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on all working days, the release added.
Hit fatally by busR. Nepolean (19) of Poonampalayam near Manachanallur was killed when he was knocked down by a speeding bus on Friday night.
Nepolean was seriously injured and was admitted to KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed on Saturday.
