TIRUCHI: A major signalling work will be taken up at Tiruchi Junction from October 10 to 16, as part of gauge conversion between Tiruchi and Pudukottai.
Consequently, there may be a delay in the arrival and departure of trains from all directions at the Junction, a press release said. The departure and arrival of trains on the nominated platforms was also subject to changes.
D. Ravi alias `Sullan' Ravi (23) of Coimbatore was detained under the Goondas Act here on Monday. In a press release, the Commissioner of Police, Sunil Kumar Singh, said he was involved in several pocket-picking cases and had been convicted in several cases.
The city police recently apprehended him with the assistance of members of the public when he attempted to escape after committing a theft at Othakadai. He was lodged in the Central Prison here.
The city police have detained 36 habitual offenders under the Goondas Act so far this year.
`World Post Day'
The `World Post Day' is being celebrated at the post offices in Tiruchi postal region. An official release issued here on Monday said it would be celebrated as `Business development day,' `Philately day,' `Savings Bank Day,' `PLI/RPLI Day' and `Mail day' from October 10 onwards.
Customers, members of the public and students can visit the post offices to know the functioning of the postal department, the release added.
Call to ex-servicemen
Ex-servicemen will be drafted for polling-duty for the ensuing election to local bodies. Interested Ex-servicemen from Tiruchi and the district should assemble at A.R. Grounds at 9 a.m. on October 11. A release said that the ex-servicemen should bring their identity card.
