Raincoats given to policemen

TIRUCHI: The City Traffic Police personnel were given raincoats, sponsored by the Canara Bank, at a brief function held here on Wednesday. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) S. Lakshmi, gave away the raincoats to the traffic policemen at a function in which senior officials of the bank participated.

NCC camp concludes

The valedictory function of the Combined Annual Training Camp - cum- Republic Day Contingent Preparatory Camp Phase-I, conducted by the 3 (TN) Comp. Tech. Coy, NCC, Tiruchi, held at the Government Polytechnic College in Thuvakudi recently was marked by distribution of prizes to the winners of various competitions. The DRO, Lilly, distributed the prizes. The cadets presented a cultural programme on the occasion. Colonel M.N. Nath, Officiating Group Commander, NCC, Tiruchi, R.S.K. Higher Secondary School, Principal, Varadarajan and Lt. Col. Sunil Anand, the camp commandant, were present.

Bid to burn copy of panel report

The city police arrested the district president of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam S.T. Rajendran and few members of the organisation when they attempted to burn copies of the Veerappa Moily Committee report on reservation for other backward classes in higher educational institutions here on Wednesday.

Those held were later released in the evening, police sources here said.

Mettur level

The level at the Mettur dam stood at 113.100 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Wednesday.
