Shop burgled

TIRUCHI: Unidentified persons gained entry into a shop located on Royal Road here and allegedly stole cash and other consumer articles on Wednesday night. According to police sources, some unknown persons broke the lock and gained entry into the shop and stole Rs. 3,400 and other articles. The crime came to light when the shopkeeper went to the shop on Thursday morning only to find the locks broken and the cash missing. The Cantonment (Crime) Police have registered a case.

Call taxi driver arrested

The Goldenrock Police arrested a call taxi driver on Thursday on the charge of stealing 19 sovereigns of gold jewellery belonging to one Joseph on Wednesday.

According to police, Joseph who hired a call taxi to reach his house at Senthaneerpuram with his wife left behind a bag containing gold jewellery.

He lodged a complaint with the Goldenrock Police on Thursday and the city police traced the driver, Raja, who allegedly hid the valuables. The stolen property was recovered from the driver.

Victor (28) and Sarukkuparai Ananth (29) were detained under the Goondas Act on Thursday on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Shankar Jiwal, a police press release issued here said.
