Free land distribution
TIRUCHI: A total of 664 beneficiaries will be distributed 719.13 acres of land under the III phase of the two-acre land scheme on Saturday, the Collector, Ashish Vachhani, has said. About 1345 beneficiaries have been distributed 1383.71 acres of wastelands in district under the first and second phases.
About 10,691 families would be provided free gas connections and stove on Saturday at a function to be held at Musiri. Already about 1000 families have been given free gas connections in the district so far.
The Collector, Ashish Vachhani, inspected some of the Integrated Child Development Scheme centres and noon meal centres functioning here.
He ordered action against the employees of the noon meal centres at the Adi Dravida Welfare Elementary School at Periamilaguparai and the Corporation Elementary School at Puthur on finding a shortfall in the stocks of essential commodities. He also ordered action against the noon meal organiser of the Thennur Corporation Elementary School who was not on duty.
Mr.Vahhani also conducted a surprise check at the Regional Transport Office at Anna Nagar. On finding a person with multiple applications on the office premises, he ordered the seizure of the papers and suitable action against him.
A dog show will be organised here on Sunday as part of the on-going multi-media exhibition being conducted by the Department of Information and Public Relations.
The show, to be organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry, will be held at 4 p.m. at the Makkal Mandram in Thillai Nagar. Pet owners, who wish to send their dogs for participation, are requested to register by 3 p.m.
The show will be followed by `skill demonstration' by the dog squad of Railway Protection Force, the Collector Ashish Vachhani, said in a Press release. Further details on the dog show could be had over the telephone at 98426 52330, the release added.
Members of the Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam staged a demonstration in the city on Thursday to condemn the hike in the prices of various commodities. They also demanded the Government to take steps to check the price hike. The state executive committee member of the kazhagam, Kovan, and others spoke explaining the demands. The members of the Revolutionary Students-Youths Front, New Democratic Workers' Front also participated in the demonstration.
The level in the Mettur dam stood at 79.96 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Friday. The inflow was 590 cusecs and the discharge from the dam was 1,500 cusecs. Staff Reporter
