The district has exceeded flag day collection target by more than 20 per cent last year, Collector P. Senthilkumar said.
Speaking at an informal chat he hosted for ex-servicemen recently, he said that the district has achieved Rs.8.42 lakh last year against the target of Rs. 6,79,800 which is 123.85 per cent.
For the current year, the State government had fixed a target of Rs.7.48 lakh. The district had 976 ex-servicemen and 218 widows of ex-servicemen. Flag day collections were utilised for the welfare of families of those who sacrificed their lives for the country and for families of those who have retired from the services. He sought the cooperation of the officials to achieve the top slot in the State in flag day collection this year too.
Mr.Senthilkumar handed over assistance of Rs.21,500 provided by the Directorate of Ex-servicemen Welfare to seven persons.
