An RTI activist has filed a public interest litigation petition in the Madras High Court challenging the appointment of three persons as Commissioners of the Tamil Nadu State Information Commission.

S. Vijayalakshmi of Periyar Nagar stated that P.A. Ramaiah, C. Manoharan and A. Arumuga Nainar were appointed as Information Commissioners by a government order dated March 1 this year.

The petitioner said that the procedure prescribed for the appointment in the RTI Act had not been followed. This rendered the appointments illegitimate.

The matter came up before the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, on Wednesday. It was adjourned to Thursday.
