The district administration has invited applications from eligible candidates under the New Entrepreneur Cum Enterprise Development Scheme (NEEDS) and Unemployment Youth Employment Generation Programme (UYEGP) implemented by the District Industries Centre here for 2013-14.

According to an administration release, the NEEDS introduced in the last fiscal envisages development of micro and small enterprises by educated unemployed youth between 21 and 35 years of age (45 years as upper age limit for special category) through subsidy support. The candidates must have a degree, diploma, or ITI qualification from any recognised institution.

Candidates with an entrepreneurial bent of mind are groomed and trained by the Tamil Nadu Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Guindy, Chennai-32, under its Entrepreneurship Development Programme.

The scheme carries a government subsidy of 25 per cent on land, building, plant and machinery subject to a ceiling of 25 lakhs for projects up to Rs.1 crore.

Prospective applicants are requested to approach the District Industries Centre at No.25, Nethaji Salai, Nagapattinam, with details of the proposed project venture along with copies of family card, transfer certificate, and degree/diploma/ITI certificate on all working days.

The scheme envisages 50 per cent quota for women, 18 per cent for SC candidates, 1 per cent for ST candidates, and 3 per cent for differently abled candidates.

The UYEGP scheme entails bank loans of up to Rs.1 lakh for business sector, up to Rs. 3 lakhs for service sector and up to Rs.5 lakhs for manufacturing sector for youth with Std VIII qualification. Candidates between 18 and 35 years of age (45 years as the upper age limit for special category) are eligible.
