KANCHEEPURAM: Applications are invited from tourist taxi operators in the district for getting South Zone permit on single point tax basis.
Collector Pradip Yadav, in a release, said that only 166 South Zone permits were available for Tamil Nadu and asked the operators to approach the Office of State Transport Commissioner, Chepauk, Chennai.
The permit, which would enable vehicles to pass through Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and Union Territories of Puducherry and Daman and Diu would be issued on first-come-first-served basis, he added.
Meanwhile, enquiries revealed that a total of 1,610 State permits had been issued in the district and 968 in Tiruvallur district. Apart from this, national permits had been issued to 669 tourist taxis in the district and 493 in Tiruvallur district.
Single point permit
As per the existing practice, if a State permit vehicle was to enter a neighbouring State, the operator should apply for single point permit fee of Rs.200, which would be valid for seven days.
On the other hand, only an endorsement in the permit book of national permit vehicles would be enough, said some of the tourist taxi operators.
