TIRUCHI: The district administration has invited applications for sanction of rehabilitation assistance to persons who have been affected by communal riots and those who have undergone jail terms for petty crimes.

In a press release, T. Soundiah, Collector, said applicants seeking the assistance should have suffered physical disability to the extent of being unfit for physical labour or economic losses. Relevant medical/revenue certificates should be produced to submit their claims. They should not have committed any grave offences under the Indian Penal Code. The annual income of persons who have undergone punishment for petty crimes should be less in Rs.38,000, if they are residents of urban areas, and Rs.24,000 if they live in villages. Only first time offenders would be eligible for the assistance. These applicants should not be members of any banned organisation and there should be no pending case against them.

Applications with relevant supporting documents should be submitted to the District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Officer at the Collectorate. Further details can be had from the same office, the release said.
