To be given to wards of inland and coastal fishermen

Nagercoil: Applications are invited from the children of fishermen pursuing two-year diploma course in marine engineering and nautical science, to avail the educational assistance of Rs.50,000.

According to the Collector, B. Jothi Nirmala, a Government Order has been issued to extend educational assistance of Rs.50,000 to the wards of inland and coastal fishermen. The applicant’s parent should be a member of the fishermen co-operative society of his area to get the assistance.

The benefit would be extended to only one child of the fishermen who have joined the course in 2007-08 academic year and the beneficiary must be doing his course in an institution approved by the Ministry of Shipping and Road Transport. Applications should be submitted to the Assistant Director of Fisheries (Marine Resource) for coastal fishermen and the Assistant Director of Fisheries (Aquatic Wealth) for inland fishermen.
