As part of the International Day for Biological Diversity celebrations on May 22, the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding here is organising various competitions for school and college students on this year’s theme: Water and Biodiversity. The objective is to create awareness on the importance of biodiversity conservation for human welfare.

The topics for painting contest, which will be held on April 5, are: Nature/animals/birds/flowers for Group I (Classes I to V); Forests for Group II (Classes VI to VIII); Water and biodiversity for Group III (Classes IX to XII) and Group IV (college students). Participants will have to bring drawing and colouring materials. Papers will be provided at the venue.

The topics for essay writing contests, which will also be held on April 5, are: Biodiversity wealth of India for Group I (Classes VIII to X); Biodiversity and sustainable development for Group II (Classes XI and XII) and Harmonising developmental changes and biodiversity in India for Group III (college students).

Quiz contest will be held for school and college students on April 6 on the topics: forest/environment/wildlife and biodiversity.
