The Department of Art and Culture, Tamil Nadu Government has invited applications from youngsters in the age group of 16-30 for participating in the art competitions to be conducted by it with the objective of identifying talent among the youth and encouraging them to develop the same.

According to a release from the Regional Assistant Director, Department of Art and Culture, Kancheepuram and the Collector of Vellore, the competitions would be conducted in music and Bharatanatyam, both for men and women.

The music competition would include vocal music and instrumental music (playing ` varnam ’ and ` keerthanas ’ in nathaswaram, violin, veena, flute, jalatharangam, gottuvadhyam, mandolin, guitar, saxophone and clarinet). Those who can play accompanying instruments like mridangam, thavil, ganjira, ghatam, morsing and konnakkol should be capable of playing five ragas in the instruments. In the Bharatanatyam section, those skilled in dancing to ` varnas ’ are eligible to participate.

Interested youth should send their bio-data to the Regional Director, Department of Art and Culture, Sadhavaram, Chinna Kancheepuram, Kancheepuram-631502 before December 15.
