Coimbatore District Muslim Jama-ath has appealed to the District Collector, M. Karunagaran, to not use Muslim burial grounds for commercial purpose.

In his appeal, the Jama-ath’s general secretary M.I. Mohammad Ali had said that there were two burial grounds within the city limits – near Flower Market, Opp. Shanmuga Theatre and the one next to the Coimbatore Railway Junction. The revenue records clearly established that the two were burial grounds. There was no division of land, either. The administration should initiate action to remove encroachments.
