Health Minister K. C.Veeramani flagged off an anti-tobacco awareness rally from the collectorate on Friday.

The Minister said that use of tobacco was banned in Vellore, Kanchipuram and Thiruvalluvar in the first phase from 2011 and the National Tobacco Prevention Scheme was being successfully implemented in these districts. The scheme had been extended to eight more district including Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur and Tiruchi from 2012 onwards.

Hence, he sought the cooperation of people from all walks of life to eradicate this menace.
