O. Gunasekaran (48) of Varushanadu was arrested on the charges of cheating public by selling antique items at exorbitant rate, said Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan.

Talking to presspersons here on Thursday, he said that the police recovered a sword along with a scabbard, reportedly belonging to Arabian Kings and hundreds of ancient coins of India and foreign countries and eight foreign currency notes from him. The image of palm tree and 1396 was sculpted on both sides of the sword and its handle.

The arrested informed the police that the sword belonged to Chola period and he had bought it from Jalagandapuram in Salem district.

The demand for this sword was very high and many people were willing to pay a huge sum for it, Gunasekaran informed the police.
