: In a case of speeding vehicle, an autorickshaw moved at a fast pace in an uncontrollable speed and fell into a ditch in front of the SIDCO industrial estate, near Maatuthavani here on Tuesday.

Police said that when the auto was proceeding from Maatuthavani towards district court, a cyclist came in between causing confusion. In a bid to avoid hitting the cyclist, the auto driver turned the vehicle, but it took a right turn and moved at a great speed and fell inside the ditch, according to eye-witnesses in the locality.

As the driver lost control, fearing danger to the life, he had allegedly jumped off the vehicle.

Seeing him jump, two passengers followed suit.

After hitting the concrete structure, the vehicle toppled and stopped only after it fell into the ditch.

On information, Traffic police officer Ramesh Kumar and others arranged for a crane, with which, the vehicle was removed.

Investigations revealed that while the two passengers jumped to safety, the bag containing jewels and other valuables got stuck in the auto.

In the presence of the police, it was also traced from the ditch and handed over to the owners.

Traffic Inspector Thirumalai Kumar said that they would investigate and register a case.
