CHENNAI: Poompuhar's Tamil New Year special sale has a wide range of handicrafts to suit every art lover's purse.

"This is the first time we are offering such a big discount," said V. Subbaiyan, Manager, Poompuhar. While all items are given a 10 per cent discount, some crafts have been marked 40 per cent off.

A `Kalyanasundarar' set of bronze figurines and a life-size Hoysala style idol of Perumal are available at 40 per cent discount. An intricately carved rosewood swing, priced over Rs. 2 lakh, is on sale at a discount of 25 per cent.

Sandalwood statues, intricate Tanjore paintings, white woodwork, metal craft, enamel work, papier mache idols and silver jewellery are also available.

Handloom skirts, tops, kurtas and children's clothes from Rajasthan have a 20 per cent discount.

Crafts from north Indian States are also on display.
