SALEM: The World Vision India - Kalrayan Hills Area Development Programme, a non-governmental organisation, has donated furniture and play materials worth Rs. 2 lakh to 20 anganwadi centres in Salem and Vilupuram districts.

It also constructed a compound wall at a cost of Rs. 1 lakh for the Karumandurai Anganwadi centre.

Programme Manager of the NGO Vivian Rajkumar handed over the materials to Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) project officers Marimuthu (Salem) and Saraswathi (Vilupuram).

The NGO provided a set of 25 chairs, 10 tables and 10 swing chairs worth Rs. 10,000 to each centre.

Speakers in the programme urged the anganwadi workers to implement the ICDS programme with commitment for the welfare of tribal children and women.

The project officers, while thanking the NGO for donating the materials, stressed that the government was working in close co-ordination with the NGOs in implementing social welfare schemes. The Vadakkunadu Panchayat President Sumithra Lakshmanan inaugurated the compound wall.

Anganwadi workers and SHG members participated.
