TIRUPUR: ALT Apparel Training College is planning to open apparel training centres in Coimbatore and Chennai by the end of 2007.

Its managing director Madhu Kapoor said that there was a huge gap between the requirement and the available skilled labourers in the industry after the opening up of quota-free textiles regime.

The labour-intensive garment industry required one lakh skilled and semi-skilled workers every year.

The institute, which offered certificate and degree courses designed to suit industry requirements, was planning to set up at least one center in each State, Mr. Madhu Kapoor said.
