The cadres of DMK, AIADMK, Congress and Left parties joined hands to submit a representation to District Collector M. Mathivanan to permanently close a TASMAC outlet at Velampalayam area.

“The shop, originally allocated in P.N.Road area, was shifted to Velampalayam area a few days ago, when the business in P. N. Road was dull,” the petitioners said.

Protest

The shop was closed within hours of opening at Velampalayam owing to public protest as the outlet was located very close to a school and few garment units where women workers were employed in large numbers.

However, steps were underway now to reopen it again and hence, the representation was given, party members said.

While TASMAC sources said the decision to shift the shop to new locality was sanctioned by the District Collector and not by them.

Vacated

“After seeing the representation on Monday, the shop at Velampalayam was vacated permanently as decided by District Administration,” sources added.
