It will decide on the next course of action
Coimbatore: The Salem Railway Division Protection and Struggle Coordination Committee has called for an all-party meeting on Thursday in Gandhipuram to decide on the next course of agitation.
In a release issued here on Wednesday, coordinators of the committee K. Ramakrishnan of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and A.V. Karuppasamy said the recent statement of the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, in the Parliament that there was no formal announcement yet on the formation or inauguration of the new railway division at Salem had raised serious doubts over the division becoming a reality.
Even as arrangements for inaugurating the division at Salem on September 15 was under way, the Minister’s suggestion that Chief Ministers’ of both Tamil Nadu and Kerala should meet to discuss the jurisdictions of the division was only adding strength to the contention of political parties in Kerala for retaining Coimbatore and Tirupur with the Palakkad division.
The committee had earlier announced a rail-roko agitation when the PIL was filed before the Supreme Court and the agitation was withdrawn awaiting the ruling.
The court finally turned down the petition.
