All zone chairperson seats in Tirupur Corporation go to the AIADMK

Elections to the posts of chairperson for the four zones identified in Tirupur Corporation and members of various standing committees, were held at the Corporation council here on Sunday.

V. Radhakrishnan (ward 8 councillor), Charles John Samuel (ward 27 councillor), P. Muthusamy (ward 40 councillor) and S. Krithiga (ward 54 councillor), all from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, were selected chairpersons of the four zones, in chronological order, unanimously.

The zone-I covers wards 1 to 15, zone-II from ward 16 to 30, zone –III from ward 31 to 45 and zone-IV from ward 46 to 60.

Official sources said that the total geographical area was divided into four zones to smoothen the administration process through better interaction with the public.

The standing committees were recently constituted for Tirupur Corporation under the heads of accounts committee, education committee, public health committee, taxation and finance committee, town planning committee and works committee exercising the provisions under Rule 4 of the Tamil Nadu Municipal Corporations Constitution of Standing Committees Rules, 1997.

Each of the committees has nine members from among the councillors.

The members of the standing committees who got elected on Sunday, would now in turn, elect its heads on Monday.

Corporation Commissioner R. Jayalakshmi supervised the elections in the presence of Mayor Visalakshi Appukutty and Deputy Mayor S. Gunasekaran.
