In Plus Two examinations conducted in Thanjavur district

THANJAVUR: Pattukottai students scored the first, second and third ranks in the district in the Plus Two examinations held in March, results for which were announced on Friday.

P.Bharathiraja of Laurel Higher Secondary school at Pallikondan near Pattukottai, was the district topper scoring 1179 out of 1200.

Bharathiraja has secured centum in Maths and Biology. Other marks scored by him are Tamil 193, English 188, Physics 199, Chemistry 199. He expressed his desire to become an Aeronautical engineer.

L.T.Pavithra, of St.Isabella Higher Secondary school at Pattukottai came second scoring 1,178 out of 1,200. She said that coaching given at the school was the main reason for her scoring 1,178 and coming second in the district. “I feel very happy,” she said when asked about her feelings about coming second in the district.

K. S. Janani of St. Isabella HSS, Pattukottai and M. Rakila Parveen of Auxilium Girls HSS, Thanjavur came third scoring 1,172 each out of 1,200. Both of them expressed their desire to become engineers.

Collector M.S.Shanmugham and Chief Education Officer V. Kumar appreciated the students for their achievements. They were presented books and certificates.

Mr. Kumar said that the pass percentage this year in the district was 90 per cent. Last year it was 90.17 per cent. A total of 23,645 students wrote the examinations in the district out of whom 21,230 passed out. Twenty two schools in the district have secured cent per cent passing out. Out of them, three are government schools, three are government aided schools, two are self-financing schools and 14 are matriculation schools.

Dena Bank gave a cash award of Rs. 5,000 to the first rank holder, Rs. 3,000 to second rank holder and Rs. 2,000 to third rank holder. P.Tamizhmani, bank manager, said that among government school students first ranker would get Rs. 3,000, second ranker Rs. 2,000 and third ranker Rs. 1,000.
