They do not rule out role of some key persons in DMK

The seven persons who surrendered at Natham in the ‘Pottu’ Suresh murder case figure in many grave crimes, according to the Madurai City Police.

Soon after the teams received information that the suspects had appeared in court in the neighbouring district, officers rushed there to quiz them.

According to the officers, one among the suspects, Saba alias Sabarathnam (25) of Keerathurai, has been involved in criminal offences and has cases under investigation in Madurai city.

There is evidence to support the theory that the gang was out to finish Suresh.

“Saba and his accomplices got the job done. They were promised money to eliminate ‘Pottu’ Suresh. We have obtained inputs that they (gang members) had a lot of information about Suresh’s movements … They were all watching him from different points in the last 10 to 15 days. We plan to take them into custody. Only then, answers for many questions will unravel,” the officers said.

Like Saba, Raja alias Nagamurugan’s name figures in a murder case in Keerathurai police station. Sekar and Lingam have cases booked under Narcotics Act as well.

They used to sell ganja and indulged in other crimes, a police officer said.

SMS exchanges between one of the suspects and his family members have been retrieved.

‘Attack’ Pandi’s role

In the last three days, over 100 persons, who had information about Suresh, were quizzed by the police teams. The role of some key persons in the DMK in the murder has not been ruled out. Former Deputy Mayor, P.M. Mannan (DMK), is being interrogated over the last two days.

The police are also on the lookout for ‘Attack’ Pandi. Since he is absconding, there is a suspicion that he could be behind the crime directly or indirectly.

The gang members’ links with ‘Attack’ Pandi are being gathered, the officer said.

The investigations are in the right direction and it is only a matter of time before the puzzle is unravelled, the officer said.

The police would be able to ascertain the motive behind the crime and the price ‘fixed’ for the job after the suspects are taken into custody, the officer summed up.
