Delivery should be done only in GHs or PHCs
DINDIGUL: Delivery of babies must be done only in government hospitals and primary health centres and certainly not at homes. Doctors and village health nurses should monitor pregnant women meticulously and bring them to hospital for delivery to ensure safety of mother and baby and their health, according to Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar.
He was addressing a special review meeting held at the Collectorate here on Saturday.
At present, 90 per cent of total deliveries in the district has been performed at hospitals only. Health officials should strive hard to make it cent per cent to avoid maternal mortolity .
To achieve it, an effective campaign was necessary to enlighten people in rural areas on safe delivery that ensured health of mother and baby.
Acute medical care and periodical health check-up of pregnant women before delivery were essential to prevent maternal mortality, he added. “All pregnant women must be enrolled and medical check-up done periodically. Vitamin tablets should also be given to them through village health nurses.”
Doctors at primary health centres must take all arrangements to transport complicated cases to headquarter hospital immediately for advanced or emergency treatment, he advised.
“The VHNs must also intensify campaign among rural people on safe delivery of baby at hospitals and negative aspects of delivery at homes.”Deputy Director of Health Services A. Jagadeesh Kumar and hospital superintendent Subramaniam and others took part.
