MADURAI: The AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa allegedly claimed during her recent campaign that the DMK cadres would create law and order problems on May 9 when Lord Kallazhagar enters the Vaigai here as part of the Chitirai festival, but nothing untoward was reported anywhere in the city, said Madurai DMK Lok Sabha candidate M.K. Azhagiri here on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters during his campaign in the city, Mr. Azhagiri said that the DMK front candidates banked on the achievements of the Centre (UPA government) and the promises being fulfilled by the DMK government in the last three years.
By causing panic among the minds of electorate during the Chitirai festival, the DMK cadres would indulge in bogus voting, Ms. Jayalalithaa had stated.
He said that people were immensely satisfied over the functioning of the government and that all the 10 candidates from the DMK front would win hands down from the southern districts.
When such was the reality, the opposition parties levelled baseless complaints against the DMK and its allies. The people would not believe them, he said in a confident tone.
Though the entire nation was aware that Mr. Karunanidhi was not keeping good health and had to undergo rest in a hospital, the opposition leaders stooped down and criticised him in their choicest words.
To another query, Mr. Azhagiri said that he had been getting good response from the public during his campaigns and that, if elected, he would focus on delivering basic needs and amenities. “I am confident that the DMK combine will sweep the polls in southern districts,” he replied.
