Union Minister and DMK south zone organising secretary M.K. Alagiri on Friday visited the house of N. Suresh Babu alias ‘Pottu’ Suresh, who was brutally murdered by an armed gang in the city on Thursday night.
Accompanied by his family members, Mr. Alagiri, after placing a wreath, consoled Suresh’s wife, daughter and relatives. Suresh, a DMK executive committee member and a confidant of Mr. Alagiri, was done to death in Jaihindpuram here when he was returning home in his car. The scene of crime was close to Mr. Alagiri’s residence.
The body, sent to Government Rajaji Hospital for post-mortem, was taken in an ambulance to Suresh’s house in TVS Nagar. DMK president M. Karunanidhi, in a statement condoled the death of Suresh. Former DMK Minister I. Periasami, party functionaries Pon. Muthuramalingam, P. Kulanthaivelu, G. Thalapathi, V. Velusami, Theni P. Mookiah and others were present at the hospital. Later, the body was taken to Moolakarai, where it was cremated.
‘Arrest killers’
Mr. Alagiri told reporters, “I have lost a loyal party functionary. He was a good friend…The police should investigate and punish them.”
