The Coimbatore Airport conducted nation-wide referendum on recognition of unions.

According to Airport Director Airport Director K. Peter Abraham, the referendum was held in all airports across the country for 14,000 unionised workers.

Workers' issue

A total of five unions were taking part in the referendum and the one that gets the majority of votes would conduct negotiations with the Government for the next five years on workers’ issues.

Unions

The unions were Airport Authority Employees Union (AAEU), Indian Airports Kamgar Union (IAKU), Airport Authority of India Mazdoor Sangh (AAIMS), Airports Authority Karamchar Union (AAKU) and Rashtriya Shoshi Kamgar Union (RSKU).

A total of 115 votes were cast in Coimbatore Airport with 68 in favour of AAEU and 47 for IAKU. The polling was held between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. with counting completed by 8 p.m.

Results

The results would be announced in a few days’ time after ballot votes gets counted.
