Joint venture of TVS group, U.S. firm

Facility to come up in Madurai

MADURAI: Sundaram Industries of the TVS Group and Firestone Industrial Products, a U.S.-based concern, are setting up a joint venture for manufacture and marketing of air springs in India.

The two industrial establishments propose to set up a dedicated ‘state-of-the-art’ green field facility in Madurai for manufacturing air springs. The joint venture is aimed at catering to original equipment manufacturers, the Indian Railways and after-market customers.

A press release quoted the Joint Managing Director of the joint venture. R. Naresh as saying: “With two global leaders combining forces to promote this joint venture in India, it is certain that a range of new world-class air springs is set to revolutionise travel comfort in the country and take end-user on a smoother, more pleasurable ride on road or rail.”

Air springs are highly engineered elastomeric bellows, which provide more advantages over traditional lead and coil springs such as higher load carrying capability, adjustable spring rate and user-friendly height control, the press release said.

This will be significant for the railways, which is modernising its design of coaches and plans to introduce high speed trains.
