THANJAVUR: A spectacular air show by the Suryakiran wing of the Indian Air Force awaits residents of Thanjavur and surrounding districts on January 23, 2010. It will be held at the IAF station in Thanjavur. “Normally, air shows are held only during events such as Independence Day and Republic Day and that too in cities like New Delhi. This will be a rare opportunity for the people of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and other adjacent districts,” stated Collector M.S. Shanmugham in a release on Wednesday.

He had convened a preparatory meeting on Tuesday. S.S. Kothari, Commander, Thanjavur Air Force station; M. Karunakaran, District Revenue Officer; and V. Kumar, Chief Educational Officer, were present.

Students will be brought to the show in school buses. Transport Corporation has been asked to operate buses for the benefit of public. The Public Works Department has been asked to make seating arrangements. Fire service and police personnel have been asked to make safety and security arrangements.
