Need to appoint adequate staff stressed
Highlighting a plethora of problems which the Salem Government Medical College Hospital is facing, the cadre of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), Salem, staged a demonstration in front of the hospital on Monday.
They urged the Department of Health to get them redressed immediately.
The cadres said that the hospital lacked all basic infrastructure facilities. They wanted life-saving drugs and antibiotics be adequately stored.
All vital equipment such as ventilators and heart monitors should be installed at ICU units. Adequate staff including doctors, male attendants, nurses, other paramedical staff and sanitary workers should be appointed.
They urged the hospital administration to run the Department of Cardiology in the ground floor and reports of X-ray and scan for both in and out patients should be given immediately.
Potable water should be given to hospital and medical waste must be cleaned immediately and properly. Children born in gynaecological ward should be given adequate security, they said.
Ambulance vans should be operated in adequate numbers. All medical tests must be held at one place to avoid inconvenience to the patients. Hygienic food should be served to in-patients, they added. R. Vairamani, District President, led the protest.
