Collector M. Ravikumar flagged off an AIDS awareness campaign by a cultural troupe here on Friday.

He said Tamil Nadu, which once stood third in the country in HIV/AIDS infection, had come to the seventh place now, thanks to the sustained efforts of the government.

To create awareness among the public on HIV infection and its spread, the cultural troupe would travel across the district and disseminate the message through folk arts, street plays, etc. The troupe members would also answer the queries raised by the public and clear their doubts.

Pamphlets and handbooks creating AIDS awareness would be distributed to the public during this campaign, Mr.Ravikumar said.
