CHENNAI: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Wednesday reiterated its demand for disqualification of its two legislators L. Radhakrishnan and K. Rajendran on grounds of defection.

A delegation of AIADMK MLAs, comprising O. Paneerselvam, K.A. Sengottaiyan and D. Jayakumar, met Assembly Secretary M. Selvaraj and submitted two separate petitions signed by Mr. Paneerselvam and Mr. Jayakumar seeking action against Mr. Radhakrishnan and Mr. Rajendran. Affidavits from other AIADMK MLAs were enclosed along with the petitions. The petitions contended that the two MLAs, by participating in the general council meeting of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on February 20, had voluntarily given up their membership of the AIADMK. Several rulings by various courts indicated that voluntary surrender of the membership of a party need not be in writing. This could be judiciously inferred and visualised by the conduct of the persons, the petitions said.

On Monday last, the party had sought action against the two MLAs and submitted petitions to Speaker R. Avudaiappan.

A few days ago, the Speaker had issued notices to the MLAs, seeking their explanation.
