CHENNAI: Members of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Assembly demanding the expunction of remarks of the Revenue and Law Minister I. Periasamy on the expenditure of the wedding of V.N. Sudhagaran, former foster son of the AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa.

Intervening in the debate on the demand for grants to the Revenue and Law departments, O. Paneerselvam, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, explained how his party, while in power, constructed the building of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, adopting austerity.

The Law Minister referred to the wedding and wondered whether it was an act of austerity.

Even as the AIADMK members were on their feet and demanded that the remark be removed from the records of the Assembly, Arcot N. Veerasamy, Electricity Minister, said there was no need for further discussion on the issue.

The Speaker, R. Avudaiappan, told the AIADMK and MDMK members not to press the matter further.
