D.K. Rajendran of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam convicted in Dharmapuri bus burning case has submiited his regisnation for the posts of Chairman and Director of Dharmapuri District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union (DDMPCU), President of the Adhagapadi Milk Producers’ Cooperative Society and Director of the State-level Milk Producers’ Cooperative Federation on October 7.

Mr.Rajendran was convicted in the Dharmapuri bus burning case in which three girl students of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University were killed.

He was the first accused in the case.

He told The Hindu that though he was convicted by the Madras High Court and was two years imprisonment the Supreme Court has acquitted him. Because of this, he was released from the Salem Central Prison after 14 months.His resignations were prompted after a case has been filed against him in the Chennai High Court by a member of Pattali Makkal Katchi from Kambainallur.

Inner party rivalry within the ruling party was the reason cited for Rajendrans’ exit from the posts. Kombaian, General Manager, of DDMPCU told The Hindu that his resignation was forwarded to the higher officials for further action.

Meanwhile, DDMPCUs’ Vice Chairman, S. Thennarasu has called for the board of directors’ meeting on October 17 to ratify his resignation , sources in Aavin said. Following this, some party member who were also convicted in the same case and elected for various posts in the recently held Cooperative elections would follow suit soon.
