The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will not be cowed down by Jayalalithaa led AIADMK government's repressive measures, the party has come across and survived many such forms of repression in the past and is also ready to face them in future, said M. K. Stalin, M.L.A, and Treasurer of the DMK.

He was addressing a public protest meeting in Madurai, on Sunday night, condemning the state government on the recent hike in the electricity tariff, the power cuts and the reversal of many decisions by the Jayalalithaa led AIADMK government.

Mr. Stalin said that the AIADMK government muzzled the opposition by never allowing them to speak in the Assembly and “so we have come here to directly meet the people” ( Satta Mandram Vaaipu Alikkadhadal Naangal Makkal Mandrathukku Vandhulloom ).

Jayalalithaa came to power reeling out a number of promises to the people and especially that of reducing the stipulated time of power cuts but it was so unfortunate that people were made to suffer not only a manifold increase in power cuts but also were deceived to a great extent.

After AIADMK came to power, all that the people got were steep increase in the prices of essential commodities including milk, revised bus fare, unscheduled power cuts to the maximum of 16 hours and to add salt to the wound power tariff has been increased recently.

AIADMK achievements during the last ten month rule is, efforts to convert Anna Library which is supposedly the biggest library in Asia into a hospital.

Shifting of the Assembly from the new complex to St. George Fort and attempts to convert the new Assembly complex into a hospital, attempt to scrap Samacheer Kalvi and dismissal of Makkal Nala Paniyalargal.

“DMK lost the general election and it was followed with defeats in the subsequent by-elections, but did our party ever go into exile and shy away from participating in political activities, no we never do like the AIADMK leadership which during the last five years when DMK ruled never bothered about the people.

DMK was formed by former C.M. Annadurai and others not with the aim of capturing power but to represent the working classes, toiling masses and work for the welfare of Backward Classes, Dalits and Minorities,” he noted.

“We were lampooned continuously by the present CM as minority government but we not only completed the full five year term but took Tamil Nadu to a higher growth rate with impressive developmental projects,” he added.

Speaking earlier, former minister for school education Thangam Thennarasu said that all that one could witness in the Assembly is the ruling party members engaging in unseen levels of sycophancy .
