CHENNAI: The Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, P. C. Ramasamy was replaced as the AIADMK candidate for Modakkurichi segment on the eve of closure of nominations for the May 8 Assembly elections.

In a statement issued here, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa said the party had earlier announced the candidature of Mr. Ramasamy for Modakkurichi and R. Tamilarasi for Palani (reserved). Now, the party would field V. P. Namasivayam from Modakkurichi and S. Prema from Palani, she said.

Expelled from the party

Ms. Jayalalithaa said former MP Raja Paramasivam and former Karambakudi block secretary of the party, V. V. Raman, were expelled from the primary membership of the AIADMK on the ground of "bringing disrepute."
