A large number of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadre, including women, participated in a day long fast in Thottiam town on Thursday to condemn the indiscriminate sand mining by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) members.

The fast was also to condemn the frequent traffic jams and accidents caused by the large number of lorries used for the transportation of the sand from river Cauvery in Thottiam area round the clock.

Vaigai Selvan, secretary of the Literary Wing of the AIADMK, led the fast. Subbu alias Subramanian, secretary of the rural district unit of the party,Sinnasamy, MLA, former Ministers P. Annavi and R. Saroja, and others participated in the fast. Leaders of the various wings of the party spoke urging the government to put an end to indiscriminate sand mining.
