COIMBATORE: Depending on the amount of rainfall received in the past week and the expected rainfall in the coming weeks, land may be prepared and kept ready for sowing gingelly, sunflower, Bengal gram, groundnut and coriander, the Department of Agricultural Meteorology of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has advised farmers.

Ready reckoners

The agro-advisory bulletin prepared by the department at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has offered a few ready reckoners for the benefit of farmers.

The bulletin has mentioned that the soil was already saturated and so drains could be prepared for susceptible crops like pulses, turmeric, vegetables and tapioca.

Harvested

Also tomato fruits could be harvested at half ripe stage to avoid fruit damage that resulted from contact of fruit with the soil.

The agricultural university has also suggested that cultivators could make use of rainfall, and do top dressing.
