Farmers and supporters of Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday locked up Lakshmanan, an agriculture officer, in his office at Keerapalayam near Bhuvanagiri on charges of “smuggling out micro-nutrients and fertilizers.”

When they saw fertilizer bags being loaded onto a mini-van on Wednesday morning, they questioned him. As he did not answer properly, the farmers locked him up inside his office. Police intervened and took him for interrogation.
