Agitation by students on Sri Lankan Tamils issue continued in Thanjavur on Thursday.

The effigy of Rajapaksa was burnt near the old bus stand as police permission was denied for taking the effigy in procession and burning it at Rajagori cremation ground.

They demanded enquiry by an international body into the alleged war crimes committed by Rajapaksa, referendum for Tamil Eelam and safety and security for Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Fifty students belonging to Federation of students for Tamil Eelam staged a rasta roko near old bus stand condemning the alleged attack on students by Congress leaders at Tiruchi recently.

A police team led by Shankar, Deputy SP, rushed to the spot and pacified the students, following which they dispersed.
