A 62-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant near Mettuppalayam on Friday morning.

A 27-year-old construction worker sustained injuries.People noticed a herd of five wild elephants roaming around Kooduthurai hills, Wels puram and Sukku coffee shop near Thekkampatti in Mettuppalayam.

While the herd returned to the forest via Samiyar Thottam and Bhavani River, one of the elephants made its way to human habitations through Kooduthurai hills.

Rajesh kumar who came out of his house was attacked by the elephant. He suffered injuries in the hip and back bone.

The elephant made its way closer to a terry towel manufacturing unit and attacked Karuppathal who was running a petty shop. Rajeshkumar has been admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
