The Tuticorin District Passengers Welfare Association has urged railway authorities to introduce additional train services and extension of platform no. 1 to accommodate 24 bogies at Tuticorin railway station. M. Piramanayagam, secretary of the association, said here on Wednesday that a memorandum seeking these developments was handed over to General Manager of Southern Railway, Rakesh Mishra, who inspected Shencottah railway station in Tirunelveli district on Tuesday.In the memorandum, a demand was also made to operate the third platform at Tuticorin station with installation of signals. Besides, the association sought extension of Tirunelveli – Shencottah passenger train, which is expected to be introduced soon, up to Tuticorin via Maniyachi bypass line and also Dehradun – Madurai bi-weekly express to Tuticorin.
