DHARMAPURI: Police protection to State Food Minister E.V. Velu, Patali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss, former Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and T. Velmurugan, MLA representing Panruti, was strengthened, said R. Sudhakar, Superintendent of Police, Dharmapuri, here on Wednesday.
He told The Hindu that one Inspector and eight police personnel will protect Mr. Velu and Mr. Ramadoss while a team of one Sub Inspector and four policemen will guard Mr. Anbumani Ramadoss and Mr. Velmurugan.
The security was strengthened in view of instructions from the Election Commission of India and the threat to these leaders.
In addition to this, candidates of important political parties were provided an escort team of police.
The strength of the security personnel has been increased to 810 from 750 from March 3 in the Pennagaram constituency.
One hundred and ten police personnel, 50 Sub-Inspectors and nine Inspectors were added recently.
All the eight police stations, which come under the Pennagaram constituency, would be manned by the Deputy Superintendent of Police.
That apart, officers in the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police were deployed for every two stations.
Additional Superintendent of Police K. Ilango is in-charge of Papparapatti and Indoor Police Stations; P. Saravanan, Additional Superintendent of Police, will be the overall in-charge of the constituency; and Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Rajan will be the in-charge for Eriyur and Perumbalai. One more ADSP will be deployed very soon, he added.
ADSP P. Saravanan will be the overall in-charge, ADSP. K. Ilango will be in-charge of Papparapatti and Indoor, while ADSP Mr. Rajan will be in-charge of Eriyur and Perumbalai.
